So Now What? Opening and Call to Worship for Acts 1

“Lord, is this the time when you will restore the kingdom to Israel?” He replied, “It is not for you to know the times or periods that the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. 11 They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

This is a reading from the Book of Acts, Chapter 1, verses 6-11. I invite you into conversation with this text in our call to worship, you can find this in your bulletin.

Call to Worship

Acts 1

So now what?

How do we follow Jesus now?

We have so many questions…

Where will we find our answers?

Together in prayer

The disciples gathered,

Together, men and women of God,

Followers of Christ in Holy Conferencing

Where will we find our answers?

Together in prayer

Who will we call into God’s work with us?

Who will be working alongside God’s will?

Who are our neighbors?

Where will we find our answers?

Together in prayer

Dear friends, Siblings in Christ,

We gather in worship as a rehearsal for Christ’s return,

We lift our voices as one in song,

We hold our hands together in communion and service to others,

We give generously to one another in Christ’s name,

How will we worship our God this morning?

Where will we find these answers?

Together in prayer

So let us pray together,

Opening Prayer

Our Ascended Christ,

When your first followers needed direction,

When you ascended to your Father,

They gathered. We’re told that

“They constantly devoted themselves to prayer.”

Holy God, We gather today for worship,

That we may be given the power of your Holy Spirit,

That we may accept evermore,

of your abundant and available grace,

We gather together in prayer

That we may offer you our offerings of praise.

Amen
